Minus Rowland and Mary McCanless
Minus E. Rowland was born on 12 January 1865 in Rutherford County and died on 29 March 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee, after he was injured in a fall. Minus married Mary A. McCanless ("Mollie") on 8 January 1885 in Rutherford County; Mollie was born on 27 February 1868 and died on 9 April 1939 in Nashville; she was the daughter of Thomas McCanless and Tennessee Johnson. Both Minus and Mollie, as well as their daughter Annie, are buried in Downing Cemetery in Rutherford County. Mollie indicated to census enumerators in 1900 that she had borne three children but that only two survived; in 1910, she said she had had two more children, but still only two remained alive. Birth and death records were not recorded in Rutherford County during the years that Minus and Mollie Rowland's children were born, and it is difficult to determine the precise birth and death dates for the three children who did not survive into adulthood.
