Richard Lawrence (Laurence) Family
Our research on Richard Lawrence (or Laurence, as the name is often spelled) is still in relatively early stages at this point. We know from census records that Richard and his wife Nancy were born in Virginia and moved to Kentucky early in the 19th century. We do not know which county they were from in Virginia, nor do we know Nancy's last name or their marriage date.
Richard was born about 1780; we do not know the names of his parents or siblings. In 1820, a Richard Laurence is enumerated in Knox County Kentucky "northwest of the Cumberland River at Lynn's Camp Creek" (according to a notation on the census books). A Charles Laurence is enumerated next door and could be Richard's brother, judging from the ages of the children in both their households. That said, we have not yet confirmed that this Richard is the same as the one in our family line.
In 1830, a Richard Laurence (headed by a male, 40-50) is enumerated in Wayne County, Kentucky, along with his wife and family of seven children, three boys and four girls. By 1840, Richard was living in Clinton County, Kentucky, where he continued to live until his death sometime after 1870. Richard was a stonemason.

iv. Richard F. Laurence (b. 1825, Kentucky - d. before 1876);
v. Elizabeth Laurence (b. 1827, Kentucky - d. after 1876); apparently never married
vi. Rebecca Laurence (b. 1829, Kentucky - d. after 1876); married L.J. Chancy
vii. Charles G. Laurence (b. ca Apr 1832, Kentucky - d. Aug 1876, Clinton Co KY); apparently never married
