Solomon Wray and Sarah Chapman
Solomon Wray was born in Virginia sometime between 1797 and 1804; his 1850 census enumerated gives his year of birth as 1804, while his death registration in Clinton County, Kentucky, identifies his birth year as 1797. Solomon married Sarah Chapman probably around 1825 and probably in Virginia (although we don't yet know where); Sarah was born in 1806 in Virginia. By 1835, Solomon and Sarah had moved to Tazewell County, Virginia, where they remained until the late 1840's. Tazewell is where they were enumerated in the 1840 census, and their sons John, Daniel, and William Charles all indicated on their Clinton County KY marriage certificates that they had been born in Tazewell.
Solomon and Sarah had a total of nine known children: one daughter (possibly named Priscilla), Elisha, Eliza, Dulcena, Samuel, William Charles, John, Daniel, and Floyd. All their children were born in Virginia.
After their youngest child, Floyd, was born in 1845, the family moved to Clinton County, Kentucky, where they were enumerated in the 1850 census. In 1852, Solomon and his son John both died on 22 December of a fever, according to Clinton County death records for that year. Solomon's married daughter Dulcena had also died in 1852 about six weeks after giving birth to her second child, Sarah Elizabeth.
Solomon and Sarah's son William Charles married Dora Ann Wright, granddaughter of George Branham; after Dora Ann's death in 1877, he married Mary Helen Wallen.
Sarah (Chapman) Wray continued to live in Clinton County until at least 1880, when she was enumerated in the household of her son, Samuel Wray. We do not know at this point where either Solomon or Sarah are buried.
