Meredith Rowland and Melissa Jordon

Meredith O. Peay Rowland ("Mace") was the second child of William Rowland and Elizabeth Brown. Born in 1849 in Rutherford County, he appears to have died in Rutherford County around 1900. Meredith married Melissa F. Jorton on 3 August 1871 in Rutherford County; she was born in November 1853 in Tennessee and died sometime after 1919. We have not yet confirmed her parents. She was the widow of James K. Lamb, whom she had married on 28 November 1869 in Rutherford County. After Mace's death, his eldest son, Wash Rowland, became the guardian for his two youngest siblings, Susie and Robert Macy.

Meredith seems to have prospered financially to a greater degree than did his parents. When his widow, Melissa, and children sold off his property after his death, he had accumulated in excess of 400 acres -- well over the 100+ acres that his father had owned at his peak.
