Maranda Harriett Rowland (or Harriet Miranda Rowland) and Jesse P. Eaton/C. Young
Maranda Harriett Rowland (or Harriet Miranda Rowland) was born in February 1858, the youngest child of Thomas Rowland and Elizabeth Smotherman. She died sometime after 1909 and quite possibly after 1910. At various points, she seems to have used both Miranda/Maranda and Harriet/Harriett as her preferred given name. In 1860, she was identified as a 2-year-old "M." in her parent's household; in 1870, she was living with her mother in Coffee County and her name is given as Harriett. By 1900, though, she was listed as Maranda H. Eaton; in the 1909 distribution of her mother's estate, she was identified as "Randa Young."
Maranda married Jesse Eaton in Coffee County on 26 August 1872, but he was no longer living with the family at the time of the 1900 census and it is unclear when he may have died. According to the 1900 census, she told enumerators that she had borne 10 children in all, and that 7 were still alive, although only five were still living in her household.
By 1909, according to Coffee County court records relating to the division of her mother's estate, Maranda had apparently married again, but her second husband's name was not identified. The 1910 census, though, includes a listing in Wichita City Kansas for C. Young, with wife Nettie and stepson, Elmer Eaton (all three born in Tennessee); however, we do not yet have more evidence linking the two families.
