Henry Harrison Rowland, the fourth child of John Rowland and Anna Brown, was born in November 1858 in Rutherford County and died on 10 January 1944 in Chapel Hill in Marshall Co TN. Henry was married three times, first to Sarah J. Ross on on 17 Apr 1878. Sarah was born in 1853 in Tennessee; when she died in childbirth on 20 August 1881, giving birth to her only son, Robert L. Rowland, Rutherford County records identified her father as Lemuel Hitchcock, who may have been her stepfather.
Henry then married Annie Louella Halstead four months after Sarah's death on 29 December 1881 in Rutherford County; Annie was born in 1865 in Tennessee and had died by 1899. Her parents were Miles Halstead and his wife, Catherine. We have been able to reconstruct Henry and Louella's children using both the 1900 census and various land deeds, in which several of Louella's children deeded their interest in property belonging to their mother.
Henry's third marriage was to Rebecca Coleman Rucker ("Colie") on 13 December 1899. Rebecca was born on 25 January 1872 in the Barfield community in Rutherford County. Rebecca's first husband was John C. Ogles, a Civil War veteran who died in early 1899; they were married on 28 Sep 1889 in Rutherford County. After Henry's death in 1944, Rebecca was granted a widow's pension, based on her first husband's Civil War service. Rebecca's parents have not yet been identified.
