Louisa Jane Branham and Anderson Lee

Louisa Jane Branham was the second known child of Barnabas Branham and Lavina Davis; according to "Early Times," she was born on 26 Feb 1844 and died 6 June 1932. She married Anderson Lee probably around 1865, but we are not yet sure where the marriage took place; Anderson was identified as her husband in the ex parte division of her grandfather's estate. ("Early Times" cites a letter from Louisa Jane Branham Lee that stated her father moved the family to Bledsoe County Tennessee at the outbreak of the Civil War, and Anderson and Louisa's first child was born in Tennessee, indicating that they may have married there.) Louisa and her husband were enumerated in Clinton County in 1870, but moved back to Bledsoe County, where they were enumerated in every census thereafter. According to "Early Times," Anderson Lee was born 2 May 1837 and died 2 August 1905.

Anderson Lee was born in Tennessee; according to this same letter, he was the son of Burrell Russell Lee who was said to be related to the Lees of Virginia. However, the only Anderson Lee found in either the 1850 or 1860 census and of the correct age range appears to have been the son of John Lee (b. 1795, TN) and his wife, Jenny (b. 1800, TN) in Franklin County, Tennessee (no Anderson Lee was enumerated in Kentucky). An Anderson Lee also served in the Civil War in Company C, 22'd Tennessee Infantry; we are researching to determine if this was the same Anderson Lee.

The family lived in Clinton County for a while; in the 1870 census, they were enumerated living next door to Louisa's grandparents, George and Elender Branham, and two houses away from her cousin, George B. Wright. However, by around 1873, they left Kentucky and moved to Bledsoe County.

Louisa's portion of her grandfather's estate included two parcels of land in Clinton County: one, a 12-acre tract along the Albany Road and the second, a 27-acre tract of timber land.

According to census records, Anderson and Louisa had thirteen children in total; in both 1900 and 1910, Louisa said that all thirteen of them were still living. We have not yet begun to research Bledsoe County records but will post our findings when we do.
