Angeline Branham and William Huff
Serena Angeline Branham appears to have lived in Clinton County her entire life and married William M. Huff there on 1 August 1859, according to Clinton County vital records. According to the dates on her tombstone in Caney Branch Cemetery, she was born on 5 February 1842 and died on 27 December 1923; William (also buried at Caney Branch) was born on 1 July 1835 and died on 7 June 1915. Three of their children -- Mattie Tom, William, and Louann -- also are buried at Caney Branch.
As part of the ex parte division of her grandfather's estate, Angelina received a one-eighth share of the Clinton County property bequeathed to Barnabas Branham's surviving children; her portion consisted of two parcels -- one, a 13-acre tract next to that of William Cross, and the other a 21-acre tract of "mountain land for timber" lying on the headwaters of the Clear Fork of Spring Creek.
In both 1900 and 1910, Angelina told enumerators that she had borne ten children and that only six were still alive. Using census records, we have been able to identify nine children in Angelina and William's family: Mary, John, Mattie, William, Charles, Sally, Robert, Minnie, and Lewis. "Rocks of Ages" also lists Louann Huff as another daughter; she was born in 1880 after the census but had died before the 1900 enumeration. "Early Times" also includes a Susan A. Huff (1887-1898), but we have not yet found any primary or secondary source supporting that connection.
William was a farmer, and his son William apparently remained single, staying at home with his parents and (presumably) assisting with the farm. We have not yet confirmed the senior William's parents or siblings.
