Nancy L. Puckett and John Alford

Nancy L. Puckett was apparently the youngest daughter of Lodwick Puckett and his wife, Kesiah Blankenship. She was born in 1809 in Mecklenburg County VA and moved as a child with her parents to Tennessee, where she married John Alford around 1826. According to another reseacher, John was born in 1798 in Virginia and died on 2 July 1846 in Marshall County TN, which lies adjacent to the southwest corner of Rutherford County.

Nancy was enumerated in Marshall County in the 1850 census, along with three children -- Matthew, Martha, and Kiziah -- and her sister, Elizabeth Puckett. By 1860, she had moved north, to Johnson County Illinois, where she died in 1866.

It is possible that Nancy's full name was Nancy Lavina; at least one of her nieces was named Nancy Lavina, probably after her aunt.

Another researcher has identified one of Nancy's sons as William M. Alford, born 24 February 1827 and died 21 December 1894 in Johnson Co, IL; however, we have no further information on this individual. It is possible that Matthew M. Alford (born 1827, according to the 1850 census) and William M. Alford are the same, and that either the name was mistranscribed or is actually something like William Matthew.
