Isaac Thrasher Jr. and Sarah Cline
We believe Isaac Thrasher Jr. was one of the sons of Isaac Thrasher Sr., our immigrant Thrasher ancestor. Isaac was probably born in Washington County, Tennessee; his tombstone in Clinton County, Kentucky, lists his birthdate as 28 November 1807. Isaac married Sarah Ann "Sally" Cline in Hawkins County, Tennessee on 21 November 1836, according to marriage records in that county. We have not yet confirmed Sarah's parents; she may have been the daughter of John Cline, who lived in Hawkins County at that time.
Isaac and Sarah were enumerated in the 1840 census in Hawkins County (with one son under 5); we have not yet located them in the 1850 census. Sometime between 1857 (son William's birth) and 1860 (census), the family moved to Clinton County, Kentucky, where they lived with their children Mary, Jula Ann, Lavina, Malinda, James, and William; their eldest son Samuel lived next door with his wife, Catherine (nee Willen) and their month-old son David. By 1870, Isaac was in neighboring Cumberland County, where he lived next door to his daughter, Malinda, and her husband John, in the Carver Precinct. After Isaac's death on 18 May 1876, his widow Sarah moved in with her daughter Julia and her husband, Jesse Booher. Sarah died on 6 December 1896; both she and Isaac are buried in the Davidson Cemetery in Clinton County.
Samuel Thrasher served as a farrier with the 6th and 12th Kentucky Cavalry and was on the steamship Sultana when it exploded on the MIssissippi River, killing numerous Union soldiers returning home.
