John Maloney and Margaret Kinkead (or Kinkaid)
As with several other families in our line, our information about John Maloney and his wife, Margaret ("Peggy") Kinkead is a little thin, but we hope to fill out more details in time.
John and Margaret were married for about 14 years, according to information in Margaret's application for a widow's pension on the Revolutionary War service of her second husband, Robert Blakeley. David Maloney, John's brother, provided an affidavit in that application stating that he had witnessed John and Margaret's marriage in Jefferson County, Tennessee, by John Jackson. A 19th century transcription of Jefferson County marriage records includes an entry for "John McLow to Peggy Kircaid" on 12 November 1798; we believe that this is indeed a record of their marriage date and that the transcriber (reading the original many years later) misread the surnames.
In his affidavit, David Maloney stated that John had enlisted in the army at Hiwassee Garrison in August 1806 and served for five years (including a tour at Sullivan's Island in South Carolina), before returning home to Anderson County, Tennessee. David said that on a trip to Sparta, Tennessee, his brother "got into difficulty with a mare" and was killed on 24 July 1812. According to the affidavit, Peggy and her children (Edward, Eleanor, Jane, and Hannah) stayed in Anderson County, where she eventually married Robert Blakeley; no date for that second marriage was given, but the couple's first (and only) son, John, was born in 1821, suggesting they married in 1819 or 1820, at the latest.
Peggy and Robert Blakeley moved to Wayne County, Kentucky, where Robert died about on 18 March 1833. Peggy remained in Wayne County with their son, John, until she passed away about 1856/7.
