Patrick Houlihan and Nora McGillicuddy

Patrick Joseph Houlihan came to Worcester from County Kerry, Ireland, with his parents Bartholomew Houlihan and Johanna McCarthy around 1878. His wife, Nora McGillicuddy, was also born in Ireland. They married on 17 November 1903 in Worcester; their marriage record indicates that Patrick was a painter and that Nora worked as a domestic. Nora was the daughter of Daniel McGillicuddy and Katherine Donahue, and she emigrated to the US around 1895, although we do not know what county or parish she was from in Ireland.

Patrick and Nora’s young daughter, Eileen, was tragically killed in a trolley car accident at the age of six.

Patrick died of leukemia two days before his 38th birthday, leaving behind his widow and five young children. As of 1930, Nora had not remarried and was renting a floor in a house in Worcester owned by Timothy McCarthy (born in Ireland in 1883 -- a relative of her late husband's, perhaps?); her surviving children Anna, John, Catherine, and Joseph lived with her.
