Death of Sister Mary de Sales: Peacefully Passing Away After a Brief But Painful Illness in St. Joseph’s Convent.
A few moments before six o’clock last evening Sister Mary de Sales died in St. Joseph’s Convent of pneumonia contracted about two weeks ago. For several days her condition had been very critical and her death was not unexpected. Surrounding her at her death were her sisters in religion and immediate relatives who administered to her comfort and consolation and thus she passed peacefully and submissively away, leaning with Christian faith and trust upon Him to whose serice she had devoted her life. In the world her name was Susan Gough. She was the daughter of Mrs. John Gough and was born in this borough January 11, 1864, being aged at the time of her death 22 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was a sister of Peter J., John J., and Michael Gough. She entered St. Joseph’s Convent August 30, 1883 and had just completed her novitiate, being professed on her death bed. (...)
Sister de Sales was a most estimable young lady and was greatly beloved and esteemed by all who knew her. During her illness she had the most skillful treatment and tender nursing. Against the dreadful disease which attacked her she fought bravely and was patient, obedient and hopeful to the end, repaying all the care that was lavished upon her with the love of her pure and gentle heart. The funeral will take place Friday morning at half past nine o’clock. Services will be held in St. Gabriel’s church. The following will be the pall bearers: Edward Lockman, Edward McGeehan, Michael Givens, Thomas Conlin, John McGlory, Philip Clark, Terence Brady, John Dougherty. The remains will be laid to rest in the Sisters’ plot in St. Gabriel’s cemetery.
